I just recently finished a course Ray Higdon created which is entitled Master Sponsoring Series.  This isn’t the first time that I have interacted with Ray Higdon as I got to meet him at Live The Dream 2  and I’ve sat thru several training that he presented through the My Lead System Pro community.    If you don’t know Ray, I would encourage you to check him out.  He is a successful network marketer that has been making a serious name for himself but it wasn’t always like that.

What Is A Solo Ad

A Solo Ad is a special mailing to someone’s email list that promotes a single product or service.  This is also a great way to build your own list.  Solo ads are typically written in the form of a personal recommendation from the owner of the email list.  Solo ads can either be paid for with a lump sum, which is open to negotiation between the marketer and the list owner, or (more commonly) by giving the list owner a share of the profits the ad generates.

The Subject Line Of A Solo Ad Is Extremely Important

When creating a solo ad, you MUST HAVE an interesting headline that will catch the reader’s attention because if you don’t its lights out and your ad will fail.  If the headline of your solo ad email is long, an email recipient may only see the first four or five words so make sure to put the benefit upfront, in the first 6 to 8 words.

For example, instead of “For a Limited Time Only, Get 75% Off All Solo Ads”, use “75% Off All Solo Ads For A Limited Time Only”.

Here are some suggestions when creating an effective headline for your solo ad.

1. Who else wants…?

It suggests to the reader that there are many people out there who know something he or she doesn’t.

Example: Who else wants to know where to get a solo ad for 2 stinking pennies. (Pennies really do stink!)

2. Are you …?

It causes curiosity and interest.

Example: Are you ashamed of your poor marketing results?

3. How to …?

This also triggers curiosity and interest.

Example: How to write solo ads that force your reader to buy from you?

4. They didn’t believe I could …, but I did!

People are naturally interested to find out how someone succeeded against all odds.

Example: They didn’t believe that I could buy a solo ad for only 2 stinking pennies, but I did!

5. How I …

We are all interested to know how another ordinary person like ourselves has achieved something.

Example: How I’ve succeeded to write effective solo ads that forced my readers to buy from me…

6. How … made me …

A variation of the one above, #5

Example: How solo ads made me wealthy overnight

7. Secrets of/to …

Everybody wants inside information.

Example: Secrets of a successful marketer

8. … ways/secrets/steps to …

A variation of the template no. 3 enhanced by the use of a number.

Example: 12 ways to create a powerful headline

9. WARNING: …

Good to use when your product or service provides a solution to a specific problem.

Example: WARNING: This mistake could be losing you thousands of dollars every month

10. Why …?

Ask a question that everyone wants the answer to.

Example: Why your solo advertising results suck? 

Powerful Content Tips To Use In Your Solo Ad

Make sure you pay close attention to the content of the solo ad.  The content needs to be interesting and should clearly distinguish your product or service from a competitor.  You want to be original and unique.  If you follow the tips below you should be a solo ad expert in no time.

• Make the ad copy personal. Give the feeling of personal conversation between you and the reader.

• Don’t sell the product, sell what the reader will benefit from the product.

• Keep your sentences and paragraphs short. They’re easier to read and understand.

• Use simple words.

• Include a bullet pointed list of benefits.

• Use sub-headings. They make your ad copy easier to read.

• Break up your ad copy’s paragraphs with one or two sentence paragraphs.

• Drive readers to act.

• Ask for the order. Tell your readers what they need to do.

• Give your readers multiple opportunities to click on the same link. Provide one link near the top and one near the bottom. You want people to be able to click when the impulse strikes. Don’t make them scroll to find the URL.

• Don’t confuse the readers by providing links to different pages.

• Add “http://” in front of your domain name, otherwise your link may not be clickable when the recipient uses certain email client packages.

• Sign your solo advertisement and provide at least your email address. Disclosing this information assures the recipient that you welcome an open dialogue. If something is not clear for the reader or if he or she needs more information, you don’t want them to delete your solo ad but to contact you.

• Use a P.S. The readers have been trained over the years to open the solo ads, skip everything and read only the P.S. for special offers.

Powerful Words To Use In Your Solo Ad

Verbs that work: create, open, discover, build, find, unleash, throw, push, go, explode, save, reveal.

Powerful words: free, easy, how to, breakthrough, power, secret, results, hidden.

Use a command to make people buy: Act Now!, Take Action Today!, Pick Up the Phone and Order NOW!

Use odd numbers: “7 Great Reasons …” works better than “6 Great Reasons …”, the experienced copywriters recommend.

It doesn’t stop there as I haven’t even talked about testing and tracking your solo ads but that is for another article.  You now have some basic concepts that will help you improve on creating solo ads.  My suggestion is to just try it.  You can literally get a solo ad for as low as $25 and a great place to start is soloaddirectory.com.   You can also check out the Warrior Forum to get decent solo ads.  Start building your list and your future today.

First and foremost I want to say R.I.P to the legendary Dwight Arrington Myers, aka Heavy D.  Heavy D was an inspiration to many including myself and I’m writing this blog post today because I read a very interesting article Heavy D wrote.  I would like to share that with you here today because I think it could impact people’s lives in some way or at least give you a different perspective on how your dreams can really come true if you put your mind to it.

Who Is Heavy D And What Does This Have To Do With Dreams?   

Heavy D was born May 24, 1967 in Mandeville Jamaica, the son of Eulahlee Lee, a nurse, and Clifford Vincent Myers, a machine technician.  His family moved to Mount Vernon, New York, in the early 1970s, where he was raised.  In the late 80’s Heavy D formed a group by the name of Heavy D & The Boyz which released its first album in 1987.  Heavy D would eventually become a superstar actor, rapper, record producer and singer.  People don’t realize that Heavy D gained even more fame by singing the theme song for the hilarious television show In Living Color and also MADtv, and Heavy D also performed the rap on Michael Jackson‘s hit single “Jam” as well as sister Janet Jackson’s hit single “Alright”.  He also starred in the recent movie Tower Heist which features Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy.  Long story short, this man was super talented, he enjoyed helping others and he was loved by many.

Heavy D Befriends A Young Man And Becomes His Mentor.  

The article I was reading was Heavy D talking about a young man he met that had huge dreams and was ambitious, tenacious and wanted to rule the world.  The young man grew up in the same town as Heavy D and even though Heavy D was a couple years older, the young man reminded him of his self.  Heavy D decided to take this kid under his wing and mentor him.  At this time Heavy D was starting to realize his dreams were coming of age.  Both had much in common like:  Believing in themselves when no one else would.  They often felt like an outcast and alone because there was nobody around to share their “RIDICULOUS” dreams with and because most people couldn’t see that far into the future.  No one wanted to hang around them because people found them annoying or crazy.  They would NEVER QUIT DREAMING regardless of anyone’s opinion about them and they would rather be alone than give up on their dreams.

Believe In “Ridiculous” Dreams…By Heavy D 

As time went by both of them become great friends and some people even considered them brothers because of how close they were.  They would call each other’s mom “MOM” like one big happy family.  Heavy D said they would sit in his mom’s basement and talk so much shit about what they were going to do with their first million dollars and the types of cars and houses they would buy.  Heavy D goes on to say that they had a lot of nerve saying all that stuff, but that’s what it took. NERVE!  They really believed that all of their dreams were going to come true no matter the course.  Like they say pure passion will lead you directly to your dreams and that is what Heavy D and the young man eventually accomplished.

So Who Is This Mystery Young Man?

Today, this young man is one of the most powerful, hard working, famous people on the planet.  The young man has done things that Heavy D never imagined doing himself and he continues to break down barriers.  He has faced adversity, hate, jealousy, ridicule and pain but he still manages to maintain his drive and continues to believe in his ridiculous dreams everyday.  It’s funny and ironic how Heavy D goes on to say that the young man has been a mentor to him without him even knowing it.

Here is a ‘powerful quote’ and the conclusion of Heavy D’s article about the young man.

“I will never lay claim to the heights that he has brought himself to but I will say that if you or anyone you know has a “ridiculous” dream remember, it doesn’t take much to encourage someone to go for that dream and this brother is living proof.” 

So, here I stand today proudly in the shadows of a true dreamer.

I salute you Mr. Sean “Diddy” Combs.  And may you continue to dream, the “RIDICULOUS” dream…

The point I’m making here is we as entrepreneurs need to help as many people as we can because it’s not about us.  Our goal should be to help others succeed and not think about ourselves all the time. Money will eventually trickle down to us faster than you think if you have that unselfish attitude.  Imagine finding the next ridiculous dreamer/superstar that you embrace and they become a 7-figure earner!  How would that make you feel and how would that help your business?  That would be an awesome testimonial and instant credibility.

Heavy D and Diddy had a vision and they did whatever it took to get there without quitting.  Who’s to say we can’t accomplish what Heavy D and Diddy did when it comes to our dreams.  In my opinion, the more people we Empower as entrepreneurs, the more ridiculous dreams can become reality ONLY IF YOU BELIEVE!

We love you Heavy D and you will be missed dearly.
